  TREATMENT AT MY OFFICE

Each treatment plan is individualized, that is to say it is designed for each person for what is causing his or her problem.

Acute or new pain that is caused by an injury is generally the easiest to treat with a better outcome than a long-term injury.  A long-term injury is one that has been there for awhile and little has been done for it.  You may have thought that it would go away or that you can handle the discomfort.  How severe the injury is and how long it has been there, will determine how long your treatment will last.

Initially treatment is designed to decrease the pain that you are feeling.  For new injuries ice is the best home remedy.  With an acute injury there is swelling and bleeding.  Even if you cannot see it you can feel it.  Ice constricts the tissue to both take away the swelling and slow down or stop the blood leakage from the tear in soft tissue.  Soft tissue can be skin, muscles, tendons, or ligaments.  Ice is safe to use on just about everything when you first injure it.  There is a time limit however on how long you apply it at one sitting.  10-15 minutes on your neck and up to 20 minutes on your lower back.  You then wait one hour and then reapply.

The next step is to further define what is causing the pain and discomfort.  A person can have pain in their back, and because of that they take medication or rest until the pain subsides.  Having done this a time or two they are surprised that the symptoms return.  What will resolve the reoccurring discomfort would be to treat its cause (that thing that causes the pain not the pain itself).  In doing so, whatever weakness or improper movement that is present, can be corrected.

My office is a rehabilitative Chiropractic office.  When you come in for treatment, you are treated for your injury and then trained in stretches and exercise to strengthen and recondition the injured area to prevent its reoccurrence.
